(Karl-Josef Hildenbrand\/dpa via AP)<\/small><\/p>\n<p>2026-08-27T09:57:50Z<\/p>\n<p>MUNICH (AP) \u2014 Jamal Musiala is still working toward a comeback after a change to his medication for a neurological issue, Bayern Munich coach Vincent Komany said Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Musiala hasn\u2019t played since <span><a data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/bayern-jamal-musiala-collapse-neurological-bfcf053c03e73f3bf2e7cc21d51341c4\">collapsing in successive preparation games<\/a><\/span> this month and will not take part in Friday\u2019s Bundesliga opener against Stuttgart. But he was to be a full participant in team training on Thursday, Kompany said. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat means he\u2019s getting used to the increase in medication, that\u2019s he\u2019s reacting well to it,\u201d Kompany said. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe will be in the squad again sometime and he\u2019ll play normally again, but of course we\u2019ll take that decision hand in hand with all the (medical) experts and so on,\u201d he added. \u201cBut he\u2019s doing well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 23-year-old Musiala first collapsed in a friendly against Leipzig on Aug. 15, then again three days later against Heidenheim. He <span><a data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/jamal-musiala-bayern-munich-5ce624985d097154b2b166c3f320d162\">subsequently said<\/a><\/span> he was diagnosed with \u201cabsence seizures caused by a neurological dysfunction\u201d but there was \u201cno additional health risk\u201d and that he intended to keep playing as before.<\/p>\n<p>Kompany and Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl said on Aug. 21 <span><a data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/bayern-musiala-collapse-kompany-medication-a60e7147c4ff645af5590cda0dc98e9f\">that the club had been aware of Musiala\u2019s condition<\/a><\/span> for at least the previous saason and that a change in the player\u2019s medication had triggered the on-field incidents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow the task is to adjust the medication again so he gets back to where we were before \u2014 a state where he had been seizure-free for a very, very long time,\u201d Eberl said.<\/p>\n<p>Bayern opens its Bundesliga title defense at home to Stuttgart on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>___<\/p>\n<p><span><a data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/hub\/soccer\">See AP\u2019s full soccer coverage here<\/a><\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Munich&#8217;s Jamal Musiala, center, leaves the pitch due to an injury during a pre-season soccer match between FC Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig in Munich, Germany, Saturday, Aug. 15, 2026.
