\u201cI was like, OK, let me see how close I can get,\u201d Gignac said. \u201cEverything going on on the block outside of Madison Square Garden was a part of the festivities as well \u2014 it\u2019s just a very different part.\u201d<\/p>\n
The area outside the Garden was \u201cfairly clean,\u201d he said, but he collected enough. He tied discarded straws into knots to \u201creinforce the wedding theme.\u201d<\/p>\n
Fans who saw the boxes later told him the project reminded them of Swift\u2019s \u201cNew Year\u2019s Day,\u201d a song about staying after a party is over and holding on to what remains.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019ve never had a song change your life, and the artist be the soundtrack of your life?\u201d Gignac said. \u201cThat\u2019s such a massive role in your day to day \u2014 it\u2019s nice to have something from that.\u201d<\/p>\n
When the photos never came<\/h2>\n
The lack of images created a void that was quickly filled with artificial intelligence: fake photos of Swift and Kelce in wedding attire, Swift in a gown and fabricated glimpses of the \u201csecret garden\u201d celebration that guests had described inside Madison Square Garden, where the arena was transformed with greenery, trees and flowers.<\/p>\n
Some were obvious jokes: users inserting themselves into the wedding or pretending they had been hired to photograph it. Others were designed to be convincing \u2014 blurry, pixelated images that looked as though they had been secretly captured inside.<\/p>\n
Swift fans are known for decoding \u201cEaster eggs\u201d and clues in Swift\u2019s lyrics and public posts. Longtime Swift fan Alexa Volland said those same habits helped many quickly debunk AI-generated images by spotting warped facial features, impossible dress straps and hidden watermarks from detection tools like Google DeepMind\u2019s SynthID.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey built a habit of close observation,\u201d Volland said.<\/p>\n
Volland, a video producer for the News Literacy Project, said she was surprised no images had emerged, but happy Swift kept control.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs a Swiftie, I would prefer to have those first looks come directly from her,\u201d she said. \u201cI know that we will eventually get a song that is probably the most revealing, way more revealing than any AI-generated image ever made.\u201d <\/p>\n
\u2018The rose garden over Madison Square\u2019<\/h2>\n
Margaret Willison, a Swiftie in Boston, was still waiting for one wedding detail.<\/p>\n
\u201cI need to know what her first song was,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s been haunting me.\u201d<\/p>\n
Willison has taught workshops on Swift\u2019s music and fandom, and says this kind of tension has defined her career. Swift has the ability to turn moments that may seem insignificant \u201cinto a cathedral we all get to be part of,\u201d Willison said, filling them with meaning.<\/p>\n
Willison said many fans trust Swift will eventually share the pieces she wants them to know.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe don\u2019t want something that\u2019s been stolen from her,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
More than a decade ago, Swift sang about leaving the spotlight and choosing \u201cthe rose garden over Madison Square.\u201d In the end, Willison said, they weren\u2019t mutually exclusive. <\/p>\n
