U.S. and Iranian negotiators are in Switzerland on Sunday for talks on working out key details<\/a><\/span> of their interim agreement to end the Iran war<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n

A team led by U.S. Vice President JD Vance<\/a><\/span>, including Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, is to meet with Iranian negotiators led by parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf<\/a><\/span> and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.<\/p>\n

Pakistani envoys are also in place, as well as Qatari mediators, for the technical-level discussions to end the conflict that began in late February. <\/p>\n

Vance said he was optimistic about making progress in talks about Iran\u2019s nuclear program<\/a><\/span> and a ceasefire in southern Lebanon.<\/p>\n

On the eve of the talks, Tehran announced it has closed the Strait of Hormuz<\/a><\/span> again over Israel\u2019s ongoing military campaign in Lebanon<\/a><\/span>. The interim deal<\/a><\/span> between the U.S. and Iran is meant to stop fighting on all fronts, including Lebanon, as well as calling for billions of dollars of Iran\u2019s assets to be unfrozen.<\/p>\n

U.S. President Donald Trump<\/a><\/span> has threatened to impose American tolls in the strait if a final deal with Iran isn\u2019t reached in 60 days. The interim agreement calls for toll-free travel for 60 days in the waterway that is vital for the world\u2019s oil supply.<\/p>\n

The head of the UN nuclear watchdog is also at the scene of the talks<\/h2>\n

Rafael Grossi, chief of the U.N. nuclear watchdog \u2014 the International Atomic Energy Agency \u2014 met with Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis on the sidelines of the gathering at the picturesque mountainside resort near Lake Lucerne on Sunday morning.<\/p>\n

The agency had monitored the 2015 nuclear deal negotiated between the U.S. and Iran under the Obama administration. <\/p>\n

Trump in 2018 withdrew the U.S. from that agreement.<\/p>\n
